How to refer to us

First reference: Alberta Parents for Stronger Vaping Restrictions. Subsequent references: the coalition or the parent coalition. We are an Alberta-based parent and caregiver coalition. We do not accept funding from tobacco or vaping product manufacturers, importers, or retailers.

Background paragraphs you may quote or paraphrase

On Bill 208: The coalition supports Bill 208 as a measured response to youth uptake of vaping products. The bill addresses flavour profiles, retail access, and promotional channels that research links to youth appeal. It builds on the existing Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act framework.

On reporting pathways: Parents and schools should know exactly who to call when there is a concern about how nicotine products are reaching young people. The coalition has asked Alberta to publish a single provincial reporting line, with plain-language guidance on what to expect after a report is filed.

On enforcement: The coalition supports enforcement and supports funding inspection capacity alongside the bill, including online and parcel-post pathways. Enforcement is necessary; on its own it is not sufficient.

On adult choice arguments: The coalition recognises that lawful adults of legal age purchase regulated nicotine products in Alberta. Our position is that adult-choice arguments should not be used to delay or weaken the youth protections in Bill 208.

What we will not do

  • We will not invent membership numbers, polling figures, or endorsement counts.
  • We will not characterise individual lawful retailers, manufacturers, or other coalitions on the record.
  • We will not provide medical or legal advice. For clinical questions, we direct reporters to the Canadian Paediatric Society and to provincial public health resources.

What we will do

  • Confirm our published positions on the record.
  • Point you to the primary Alberta and federal sources we cite.
  • Offer a short on-the-record statement on request, within our published positions.

Imagery

The coalition logo is available on request. We do not use images of identifiable young people in promotional material.
